The container terminals on Maasvlakte II are 40-50 minutes from central Rotterdam by van — the port area is enormous. Central Rotterdam is easily reached from any city-side berth via the Metro or tram network. Amsterdam is 60 minutes by train from Rotterdam.

Do: use the OV-chipkaart for public transport across the Netherlands — buy at any station or supermarket. Don't: attempt to cycle through the port area — the roads are freight-heavy and unsafe for cyclists. Watch for: Rotterdam's port area covers 40 km east to west; expect a long van ride from the westernmost terminals to central Rotterdam.
