CMA CGM Jacques Saadé is a 2020-built container ship (236,583 GT, 23,112 TEU capacity), the first of nine ULCVs in her class and — at delivery — the largest LNG-powered container ship in the world. Built by China State Shipbuilding at Jiangnan Shipyard, France-flagged. Named after CMA CGM founder Jacques Saadé (d. 2018), Lebanese-French shipping magnate. The class marked CMA CGM's early industry commitment to LNG dual-fuel bunkers on the largest hulls, cutting NOx ~85% and CO2 ~20% vs HFO — a signal that decarbonisation had reached the ULCV segment.
Jacques Saadé crews operate under CMA CGM's LNG-focused onboarding curriculum: chief mates and second engineers rotate through Le Havre bunker training and simulator sessions before their first cargo-planning cycle. The Saadé-class is a French-flag benefit for the industry — the vessel qualifies its bridge officers for RIF (Registre International Français) tax and benefits under EU state-aid rules.
