Overview
Samsung Heavy Industries at Geoje, South Korea, is the third-largest shipbuilder in the world by output. SHI dominates the LNG-carrier order book — having delivered roughly a third of all in-service LNG carriers — and is a major builder of drillships, FPSOs, and ultra-large container ships. Owned by Samsung Group (separate from Samsung Electronics' management).

Why it matters to seafarers
Most LNG carriers built since 2010 came from SHI; engineers joining LNG-trade fleets will see SHI-built tonnage repeatedly. The yard standardised on the Mark III and No.96 cargo containment systems, which shapes the cargo-engineer training requirement.
