Overview
Registro Italiano Navale (RINA) is Italy's classification society, founded in 1861 in Genoa, where it is still headquartered. It classes around 5,000 vessels representing 50 million GT, with particular strength in cruise ships, ferries, mega-yachts, and the Italian-built naval fleet. RINA is an IACS member and operates a significant decarbonisation-advisory business through its parent group, RINA S.p.A. The society is a recognised organisation for the Italian and many secondary-flag administrations.

Why it matters to seafarers
Cruise seafarers will see RINA classification on most Italian-built ships (Fincantieri yards) and on Costa, MSC Cruises, and Carnival's Italian-built tonnage. RINA's RINACUBE portal carries class certificates; chief engineers should expect more frequent visits than on the cargo fleet because the passenger-survey cycle is denser.
