Mid-level deck officer. Often holds navigation officer responsibility (passage planning, chart corrections, ECDIS).

What they do

Stands a bridge watch (typically 12–4), maintains charts and ECDIS, prepares the passage plan under SOLAS V/34, reports to the Chief Officer on navigation matters. Often the medical officer.
