Master's second in command. Responsible for cargo, stability, deck crew, ship-board ISM / ISPS implementation.

What they do

Plans and supervises cargo, ballast, deck maintenance, mooring, anchor, stability calculations. Acts as the Safety Officer, often the Ship Security Officer (SSO) and the Designated Person for cargo. Steps up as Master when required.
