Marine Pollutant

Substance identified in the IMDG Code as harmful to the marine environment under MARPOL Annex III, and consequently subject to special packaging, marking, and stowage requirements. Marine pollutants must carry the 'Marine Pollutant' (dead-fish-and-tree) mark on packages and on the transport unit. The IMDG Code lists marine pollutants in its dangerous-goods list (column 4 'MP'), and the substance may also be assigned a primary hazard class. Stowage requirements emphasise containment in the event of damage to the package and accessibility for response.
