Vetting Inspection

Pre-fixture or pre-charter inspection of a vessel by an oil major, chemical major, or charterer to determine acceptability for their cargo. SIRE 2.0 (oil), CDI (chemical), and RightShip (dry bulk) provide the underlying inspection data; the oil major or chemical major then applies their own acceptance criteria and reviews the inspection report against their fleet history with the vessel. Vetting decisions are typically made by a vetting department in the oil major's chartering house and can be appealed by the operator through a structured response process.
