Which exchange rate is used?

Live rates are pulled from the Frankfurter API (frankfurter.app), a free, no-key, ECB-backed reference rate service. ECB publishes daily reference rates ~16:00 CET on banking days. Weekend / holiday rates are the previous banking day. For settlement / allotment purposes the bank will apply its own buy/sell spread plus fees — the rate you see here is the indicative mid-rate.

How accurate is this for an allotment?

Use it as a planning estimate only. The actual rate applied by your manning agent's bank or by Wise / Remitly / similar will differ by typically 0.3–2% spread plus a fixed fee. Always confirm the actual receive amount on the bank statement before counter-signing the wage account.

Can I save my home currency?

Not yet on this page — the calculator is stateless. The site does not require an account to use any tool; if you want a saved preference, the upcoming server-sync personal-tools update will let you persist your home currency along with sea time and certificates.

Common allotment scenarios

· Filipino seafarer — typical allotment is 80% of wages to home account in PHP. Bank fee on USD inward remittance via Pinoy Express / GCash typically 0.5–1.5% effective spread.
· Indian seafarer — wages paid in USD to NRE/NRO account in INR. Tax-exempt as NRI if <182 days in India in the FY. Wise / Remitly typically beat bank rates by 0.5–1.5%.
