Letter of Protest

A Letter of Protest (LoP) is the Master's formal record that an event has occurred which may give rise to a claim — quantity discrepancy at loading or discharge, contaminated bunkers, slow shore equipment, delayed NOR acceptance, weather stoppage, surveyor disagreement. Issue an LoP at the time of the event; rebuttals can come later.
