Summary

The product tanker Mercer Street — Japanese-owned, Liberian-flagged, Zodiac-operated — was struck by loitering munition drones off the coast of Oman. Two crew members were killed: a Romanian second officer and a British security guard. The US, UK, and Israel attributed the attack to Iran, citing this as a response to prior Israeli strikes on Iranian shipping. The incident triggered the first US-UK-Israel coordinated maritime security statement of the shadow tanker war.
