missile strike · 2024-03-06 · Red Sea (gulf of aden)
A Houthi anti-ship ballistic missile struck the Barbados-flagged bulk carrier True Confidence approximately 50 nautical miles southwest of Aden. The bridge and superstructure were hit while the vessel was underway. Three seafarers — two Filipino, one Vietnamese — were killed, becoming the first fatalities of the Houthi maritime campaign. The vessel drifted and burned; the crew abandoned ship and were rescued. The strike triggered a formal reassessment of Red Sea transit risk by owners and P&I clubs.
