missile strike · 2024-01-26 · Red Sea (gulf of aden)
The Trafigura-chartered product tanker Marlin Luanda was hit by a Houthi missile while carrying Russian-origin naphtha. A cargo fire broke out in the aft-most cargo tank. Trafigura's fire-fighting protocol contained the blaze after several hours; INS Visakhapatnam (Indian Navy) provided medical evacuation for injured crew. The vessel eventually resumed passage under her own power. No fatalities. The incident illustrated the cargo-fire risk of missile impacts on product tanker tonnage.
