recovery follow up · 2024-01-27 · Red Sea (gulf of aden)
Follow-up on the 26 January 2024 Houthi missile strike on the Trafigura-chartered product tanker Marlin Luanda. Trafigura's chartered fire-fighting response contained the cargo-tank fire over ~24 hours. INS Visakhapatnam provided medical evacuation. The vessel resumed passage under her own power to a safe port for cargo transfer + repair, subsequently returning to service. Notable as one of the first tanker cases demonstrating that with adequate fire-fighting response, a missile-strike-caused cargo fire on a product tanker can be contained without vessel loss — informing subsequent Red Sea transit response protocols.
